Fits my taste... Literally.

Fits my Taste...Literally.

This goes without saying, but deciding on your wedding menu and bar choice is going to need careful consideration, as this area can take up a huge chunk of the budget. Would you and your groom like buffet style, hors d'oeuvres style or a cocktail hour? What style would make the most sense for your wedding guest amount? If you have a formal wedding in mind then a sit down dining experience would suit you best. If you're all about getting the party started, serving light appetizers may be a better fit.

Like your photographer, good caterers are in very high demand. Sourcing your caterer about the same time you are scouting a venue would be a pretty wise approach. Luckily for my I do's, my venue included the food and bar, with a menu equally appealing and to my satisfaction as the venue itself.

When I say luckily, I mean it, as most times these package-type venue options present a nightmare more than a nicely wrapped two-in-one special. In some cases your special venue food menu, may not meet your tastebud expectations and can sadly make or break that venue of choice. In other cases said venue may have a strict policy about allowing an outside caterer and end up doubling your rental price. With that said going the package venue deal isn't for everyone. After all you don't want to be the wedding with the beautiful venue and the (insert bad word of choice) food. I didn't think so...

So you've decided not to do the package venue. Now we know it's all about cutting cost in every possible area you can, but going with a caterer whose food isn't that great for the sake of saving dollar or two isn't worth it. Instead, consider keeping your head count down to afford the caterer that meets all your expectations.

Lastly every couple wants to leave a good impression with their guests and family. Sometimes keeping things simple rather than having the over the top foreign cuisine is best. If your guests would appreciate a sophisticated spin on local cuisine then by all means do so. One more thing! Please please ensure your caterer has your FINAL headcount. No couple wants to have the wedding where their food ran out. This may sometimes mean following up with guests who do not understand that not RSVP'ing is pretty rude. Yup. There are those.

When it comes to the Bar, things are slightly less complicated than the caterer but equally important. Most bar services offer flexible bar options at a price that can fit any wedding budget. A wedding couple can have the option of having their bar incorporate a cocktail hour at the start of the reception so guests can mingle and unwind. Others serve only a signature cocktail all night, or have an open bar where a variety of alcohol options are served all night.  An open bar is popular in most weddings, where the bride and groom pay a flat fee based on their wedding size and several alcohol options are served for the majority of the reception. Another bar option is the consumption bar where the price incurred is based on what and how much was consumed by the guest. Choosing the right bar to suit your wedding can be very flexible with options that can fit any wedding style and of  course budget.

  1. Food is super important especially if you know you're having a long programme - appetisers during cocktail hour are so important to keep guests happy! We also learned from experience to limit hard alcohol during cocktail hour lest guests get a bit too into the festivities before the formal programme lol

  2. I've always thought that food can make or break the experience at a wedding. Love that you indicated how critical it really is to keep guests fed and happy.🙂
