Moving in style
For a wedding, transport needs to be considered for a number of reasons. Usually the bride and groom would require transport to get to the ceremony with their individual parties and after the ceremony to the reception, either alone or with their bridal party. Traditionally, on the way to the ceremony, the groom travels with his groomsmen, the bride with her father or the person who has the honour of walking her down the aisle, and the bridesmaids, flower girl, ring bearer and sometimes mother of the bride accompany each other.
In recent times, transport arrangements are not always bound by tradition. Brides and grooms can share transport with their entire party or implement any means of transport that suits the feel, type and style of their wedding. The vehicle of choice is entirely up to the couple and their wedding. Some couples prefer a limousine, vintage car, party bus, horse and carriage or luxury vehicle. There is no wrong option here. Whatever works best for your wedding size, personality and wedding type.
Transportation also needs to be considered for venues that require a lot of walking for your guest to arrive at, venues with limited parking or that are located out of an area where most of your guests are situated. Wedding transport can cost you, but it is an area where you can save some dollars. Some options include using a friend's luxury vehicle or your own vehicle. Also, be practical with your vehicle choices. If you want your bridal party with you, get a vehicle that come comfortably fit everyone where the bride is particularly confortable in her dress. Don't opt for the convertable mercedes during an unpredictable season because it looks cool. You may also want to reconsider the horse and carriage on a scorching day. A slow crawl to your venue in your heavily beaded and layered dress, may have you showing up a melted and disheveled mess.
I was a least. hassle. bride. I wanted every single thing at the venue. The groom, the parents, everyone in the bridal party got ready at the venue. The ceremony was at the venue. The reception was also at the venue. Our only transporting activity was done in the morning with our personal vehicles, and we all got to the venue early that morning to get dressed. This "all in one" venue decision was heavily influenced by the fact that most of our guests were either out of town-ers or coming from another country. Its hard to have a different location for ceremony and reception when you MUST consider your guests who have made financial, personal, and other sacrifices to be present for your nuptials.
Brides, book your vehicle choices early from a reliable vendor and secure all downpayments. Read your contract thoroughly about all policies, insurance and liability you will need to be aware of. In most instances your wedding coordinator also assists in the ironing out of these contracts. All in all, stick to options that are cool, comfortable and that can work for everyone involved.
